Filipa Tojal (Portugal, 1993) is a visual artist working mostly inside the painting universe. Currently living in Berlin, she has lived and worked in Japan for four years. Filipa holds a BA in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto and completed a Master’s Degree in Painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. While using techniques that are Western as well as Eastern and questioning the differences between these two worlds, she embraces a visual and meditative process having as her poetic influence the changing surrounding scenarios.

«The Walk & Talk residency is short in time but very intense in its essence. I was matched with an artist whose work is so different in conception but with whom, from the first day I managed to share thoughts on dissimilar topics which then turned into stimulus to my work. Guillaume and I shared music, texts, trips, philosophies and it brought me a different understanding of my work and which steps I should take next, which is exactly where I collapse in my practice. That week still stands for me now, as a whole memory of travel and journey.»
