Susana Rocha (Portugal, 1988) is a visual artist living and working in Lisbon. She holds a BA in Painting, a MA in Fine Arts, a second MA in Teaching Visual Arts and a PhD in Fine Arts. She is the Founder and Director of the artist-run-space DUPLEX. Researching concepts like tension, paradox, ambiguity, disruption, and the human condition, she works with a broad range of materials, mainly through a sculptural approach.
«The Body is Absent but not the Desire is the beginning of a broader conceptual, material, and aesthetic research on how to convey tension, discomfort, and a sense of uncanny while also generating seduction and the desire of recovering what is absent or lost. Exploring and merging industrialized and organic materials and bodily references, death drives surface while vital impulses are also apparent».
