Alexis Sones is an Austin-based oil painter whose work explores organic abstraction and imaginative archetypes, stemming from a personal transformation in October 2018 when her vision spontaneously restored after 25 years of wearing corrective lenses. This event shifted her artistic focus from the external world of nature scenes and portraits to the inner landscape of the imagination.
Her touch is easily identifiable through snakelike paint strokes and noticeable absence of straight, hard edges. Her paintings reflect an interest in elemental, primordial themes of creation myths across ancient cultures, and serve as both a personal evolutionary compass and a meditation on the relationship between individual physiology and collective myths.
«In the past 2 months, I have expanded in ways that previously felt out of reach, I have set new standards for my practice that I didn’t know I needed, I have stepped into deeper ownership of my mission, I have refined how I present my work in the world, and most importantly, I have had the honor of doing so alongside truly gifted artists across the globe that are walking the walk and talking the talk of this unique, rigorous, joyful and inspiring way of life we have chosen.»
